HOUSTON (ICIS)–INVISTA has declared force majeure and has implemented supply allocations on its adiponitrile (ADN) and hexamethylene diamine (HMD or HMDA), salts and polymers, the US-based nylon and intermediates producer said in a statement to ICIS on Wednesday.
The force majeure declaration is a result of a chemical function issue at its manufacturing facility in Victoria, Texas, the company said.
“We are working diligently to resolve the issue without compromising our relentless commitment to compliance, safety and the environment,” the statement said.
INVISTA representatives will communicate with customers and provide updates on amounts and rough estimates for timing of supply allocations, the company said.
Market sources said that they were notified of the issues in a letter that was sent to customers on Tuesday.
On Sunday, the company had reported an emissions event in a regulatory filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Market sources said they expect major issues at any intermediate production facilities to have an impact on the nylon 6,6 market because there are not many producers in the industry, and the plants tend to be large in size.
ADN is a key intermediate for HMD, which is used to produce nylon 6,6. Nylon 6,6 polymers are used in various industrial, textile and automotive applications.
