In order to improve driving safety, Continental AG announced to adopt PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) material in windshield production.
As the designated raw material supplier for Continental AG, the 6165A6 high hardness PPS provided by Celanese Corporation features ultra-high temperature resistance. Besides, the material can also meet the volume requirements of various auto parts.
At present, Continental AG has started using 6165A6 PPS in the production of auto windshield. The company believes that the safety of windshield is a key factor of the overall automotive function.
German Automobile Association (ADAC) has reported that an automotive head-up displays include a unit that produces an image and an optical module that redirects the image with speed or navigation information onto a transparent projection surface at the driver’s eye level. The driver will easily receive the critical information related to the road condition so that he or she can respond faster to potentially hazardous situation.
When referring to the benefits of PPS application in windshield, Monika Taut, graduate engineer in applications technology, Celanese Transportation Business Unit said: “Our high performance 6165A6 PPS is a kind of polymer with extremely strong mechanical properties. In addition to windshield, the material can also be applied in bearing housing, the optical rail and in the mirror holder.
Continental AG highly appreciates 6165A6 PPS provided by Celanese. They hold the opinion that the reinforced engineering plastics with 65% glass and mineral fiber can offer low warpage characteristics and high dimensional stability. It is certainly an ideal material for automotive industry.
