According to the statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics on the industrial output of major products from January to September 2013, plastics industry enterprises above the designated size accumulated an output of 44.6 million tons, a year-on-year growth of 8.8% and an accumulated growth of 1.4 percentage points above that of January to August. Of this growth, September completed an output of 5,585thousand tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.7%, and an increase of 5.9 percentage points compared to August, with two consecutive months of growth in the production of plastics since July of 2013.

Although the increase in the production of engineering plastics grew rapidly in September, however the cumulative growth rate has slowed compared to last year, with cumulative growth in plastic production decreasing from January to September by 1.4 percentage points lower than last year. Development in the plastics industry has shifted from high-speed growth to a stage of stable development.

From a regional perspective, Central and Western China have grown faster than Eastern China, of which Central and Western output have grown the fastest, with plastics production nearly 22 percentage points higher than Eastern China from January to September 2013. Due to the rapid growth in the output of plastic products out of Western China, its proportion in the country’s total output has gradually expanded, which indicates that the geographic layout of China’s plastics industry is moving towards an equilibrium, and Central and Western China are to become a new hubs of growth for the plastics industry.
