Reportedly, global engineering plastics market will reach a value of USD 90 billion (RMB 550 billion) by 2020, which is attributed to the growing awareness of the public demand for more compact, more efficient materials.

According to the report released by Ceresana, the two largest areas of application are to be electrical and electronic products and consumer goods. Together, these two categories will account for 25% of global demand.

The third largest market is communications and transportation, followed by construction.

However, regional differences do exist: communications and transportation are the primary market in Western Europe, while consumer goods take the lead in Asia.

There are also significant differences in terms of single product applications. For instance, although communications and transportation account for 35% of total nylon consumption, however household goods and consumer goods are the main consumption sectors for ABS.
