At present, engineering plastics have become the world’s fastest growing materials in the plastics industry. Their development plays a pivotal role for not only China’s core industries but for the modern high-tech industry as well.The overall demand for engineering plasticsis expected to reach at least 4.5 million tons within the next few years.
After years of development, China has already gone through the initial steps of establishing an engineering plastics industry. The country is the largest importer of engineering plastics globally.
Some experts have suggested that China should, strategically and tactically, highlight five areas of reform: first, develop a non-state-owned economy, which primarily entails an equal institutional treatment for the non-state-owned economy; second, restructure the state-owned enterprises (SOE) by at least cutting half the ratio of their total assets to that of the entire economy; third, construct a modern enterprise system in its true sense, with a corporate governance structure at its core; fourth, accelerate the pace of political reform to pave the way for further economic reform; and finally, seize the historic opportunity to take the SOE reform to next level.
