Research group from Hokuriku Advanced Science and Technology University and Tsukuba University recently developed the world’s most heat-resistant bioplastics which can withstand high heat up to 400 degree. Coliform is used in the new process producing this hard and transparent bioplastics. Due to these features, the plastics may be used in making auto glass to further reduce vehicle weight.

Japanese researchers noticed that amino cinnamic acid secreted by some actinomycetes has a very sturdy construction and based on this discovery, they restructured Escherichia coli gene and then use it to make sugar fermented to produce “4-amino-cinnamic acid” which is almost nonexistent under natural conditions.

Through light reactions and macromolecular, researchers use “4-amino-cinnamic acid” to prepare aggregation polyamide acid and made of polyamide film heated under vacuum of 150 to 250 degrees. This film is difficult to burn and it can withstand temperature of 390 to 425 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature conventional bioplastics can tolerate is only 305 degrees Celsius.

Researchers believe that compared with traditional plastics which use petroleum-based raw materials and made through complex manufacturing process, cost of bio plastics is relatively low. They prepare to further improve its strength and strive to achieve practical application.
