Webasto, a famous German auto parts provider, is experiencing the boom of panoramic sunroof. In recent years, the market of China’s auto sunroof has been increasing rapidly. The latest data show that in every 3 vehicles produced in China, one of them will be equipped with sunroof or panoramic sunroof.

Comparing with the same volume of glass sunroof, the weight of PC sunroof is only half of the weight of glass. With the light weight concept continuously gaining popularity, Webasto considers that the market potential of PC sunroof is tremendous. At present, the company has been the designated supplier of auto sunroof for Volkswagen Golf A7.

At present, PC/ABS is the most suitable automotive interior material because it offers excellent heat resistance, impact resistance, stiffness, and processing fluidity. It is also an ideal material for making the instrument panel. The deformation temperature of PC/ABS is 110℃～135℃, capable of meeting the thermal requirements even for tropical countries where a car could park outdoor under the sun at noon time. PC/ABS features better finishing and adhesion with covering films. It allows the surface of instrument panel to skip the process of pre-treatment; which means that direct spraying of paint or coating with PVC film is possible.

In addition to be made into panoramic sunroof, PC is also suitable for manufacturing of head lights. The application realizes the excellent properties of PC, namely high transparency, excellent heat-resistance, impact resistance and ease of fabrication. Due to the property of easy fabrication of PC, the front of head lights, connection straps and the body can be molded together with the lens to produce head lights with beautiful and complex shapes.

The focusing lens and reflectors made of PC, which has high heat resistance, can be vacuum sprayed directly with metal. At vacuum spraying, the temperature, reaching up to 200｀C, will not cause plumping, fog spotting or stripping on the surface. Due to the application of r PC, the weight of front vehicle lampshade is reduced by 0.5～1.4kg compared with similar glass product. At present, Nissan, Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo etc. models has all used optical PC as the material in producing auto head lights.
