FDA: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is part of the United States Government Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) by being under the Ministry of Public Health (PHS). FDA looks after these following items: food, medicine (including those for veterinarians), medical devices, food additives, cosmetics, as well as foods and drugs for animals.

According to the regulations, products must undergo testing from the FDA to prove their safety prior to being marketed to the public. FDA has the right to inspect the manufacturer and has the right to prosecute offender.

FDA will create different standards for different items tested, such as CFR 177.2600 that was specially designed for synthetic rubber.

1. REACH: The full name is Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It is the legislative framework on chemicals of the European Union (EU) regarding areas of registration, evaluation, authorization, restriction and regulation. It also helps detect the increasing number of SVHC substances, which currently is at a total of 73. SVHC stands for Substance of Very High Concern.

Products from Eastman, NewMat and BASF all have met the SVHC criteria. For relevant documents, the factory can provide them. However, if you require an independent third-party to issue a testing report, you will require an individual consultation.

2. RoHS: The standards set by the EU mainly for electronic products regarding the product specifications, materials and processing. It aims at eliminating 6 harmful substances including: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

3. CAS No.:

A division of the American Chemical Society, the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) is the most authoritative collection of disclosed chemical substance information which covers substances identified from the scientific literature – avoiding the troublesome of a myriad of names and boosting the convenience of search from the database. A CAS Registry Number is a numeric identifier and is assigned to a substance when it enters the CAS REGISTRY database. Numbers are assigned in sequential order to unique, new substances identified by CAS scientists for inclusion in the database. Some countries now require manufacturers to report the CAS No. for products that are imported and exported in order for statistics and controlling the chemical goods coming out of the country.

Presently, there are customers who require suppliers to sign a guarantee for several materials, such as plasticizers, bisphenol A and more. In general, suppliers are not going to sign. However, they may issue their own documents to certify that certain chemicals are not present.
